Do ZOOSHEN filters soften water?
No. They reduce chlorine and certain contaminants; they do not remove hardness (calcium/magnesium) and contain no salt or ion-exchange. If you have hard water, pair the filter with a separate softener.
What does NSF/ANSI 177 certify?
Chlorine reduction for shower systems, plus material safety and structural integrity. See the NSF/ANSI 177 explainer. It does not certify softening or removal of lead/PFAS.
What do “stages” actually mean?
A stage count is a marketing number, not a quality measure. What matters is which media are present and how much contact time they get. A well-built 3-stage filter can outperform a 15-stage gimmick — so we describe the media, not the count.
Do they remove lead or PFAS?
Some media (KDF-55, high-grade carbon) reduce certain metals and organics, but shower filters are not certified for lead or PFAS removal under NSF/ANSI 177. For those, get your water tested and use a point-of-entry system designed for it.
Will filtered water feel different?
Most people notice less chlorine smell and less dryness or itching. The water does not become “soft” and will not suddenly lather more — that is a hardness effect, not a filtration one.
Installation & fit
Will it fit my shower?
Inline filters fit standard 1/2″ shower arms. Handheld and showerhead models replace the existing head. Check the product page “Compatible with” list, or ask support with your model.
Is installation really tool-free?
Yes for inline and showerhead models — hand-tighten in minutes. Some wall-anchor situations may need a wrench; full steps are in each product’s install block and the installation guides.
Do I need a plumber?
No, for inline and showerhead models. Hand-tighten, run the water, and check for drips. Handheld models simply screw onto your existing shower arm.
Will it reduce my water pressure?
A correctly sized filter has minimal impact on flow. You may notice a small drop as the media loads up near end of life — if flow falls sharply, the cartridge is due for replacement.
Cartridges & maintenance
How often should I replace the cartridge?
Most households: every 3–6 months, or when you notice the chlorine smell returning. Heavy-use or high-chlorine areas: every 3 months. The annual pack covers a typical year.
How do I know it is time to replace?
The chlorine smell returns, or flow drops noticeably. We recommend writing the install date on the housing so you can track it.
What if the filter sits unused for months?
No harm in leaving it installed. Run the shower for a minute when you return. If it has been unused for several months, replace the cartridge to be safe.
Can I recycle old cartridges?
The plastic housing is recyclable in some municipal streams; spent media is generally not. Follow your local guidance, or use our cartridge take-back program — request a prepaid label through the contact form.
